SurfelViewer - Browser Plugin


Introduction

The web based viewer complements the low-cost scanning device and Pointshop3D, yielding a powerful pipeline for efficient 3D content creation and display. SurfelViewer makes use of circular surface elements (surfels) instead of conventional polygonal meshes - no conversion has to be made to publish the acquired point-based objects in the web. The plugin currently supports all popular web browsers for Windows and Linux.


Minimum Requirements

Windows

  • Windows XP / 2000
  • Internet Explorer 5.0, Mozilla Firefox 1.0, Mozilla 1.4 or Netscape 7.0

Linux

  • SuSE 9.x, RedHat 9.0 or better
  • Mozilla Firefox 1.0, Mozilla 1.4 or Netscape 7.0

Note: It is generally highly recommended to install the newest browser version due to security concerns.


Installation

Mozilla based browsers do not support a common interface for automatic plugin installation. Therefore, a manual installation has to be done.

Firefox Firefox 1.5-2.0
Windows Windows (Mozilla 1.x or Firefox 1.0)
Linux Linux (Mozilla 1.x or Firefox 1.0)


Interaction

Keyboard

Arrow keys: rotate object
Shift and arrow keys: rotate object (faster)
Control and arrow keys: translate object
Control, Shift and arrow keys: translate object (faster)
Alt and arrow keys: zoom
Alt, Shift and arrow keys: zoom (faster)
Home: reset camera
Page Up: zoom in
Page Down: zoom out
Keypad Minus: decrease surfel size
Keypad Plus: increase surfel size

Mouse

Left Button: rotate object
Middle Button or Left and Right Button: zoom
Mouse Wheel: zoom (faster)
Right Button: translate
